Yet it is not only Juliet who changes. So does Romeo. In the balcony scene in ACT II Romeo is a chivalrous man, obedient to Juliet. However, it is only in Mantua that he becomes mature. The moment he hears about the death of his beloved Juliet he does not hesitate to take a poison.
What makes the tragedy so terrible is that the lovers miss each other by a tiny fraction of a second. The moment Romeo dies Juliet wakes up, which makes the scene unbearably painful.
